 Late news: Veda (Mrs. Pearl) Sams passed  away. Visitation will be Monday, May 7, 2012, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Chariton Christian Union Church at 11:00 am.

This year’s

Round Robin Revival will begin at Milo on Sunday, Aug. 5th.

Mike Anderson will be this year’s speaker again as well as our Council

speaker. The revival will run Sunday through Thursday at 7:00 each

evening. Friday evening, Aug. 10, we will meet at Jericho Hills Camp for

a concert by Higher Power, then council business will be conducted on

Saturday, Aug. 11. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THE EARLIER DATES. More

information will be coming!

HOG ROAST - May 5, 2012

Do you have a garage, basement, or attic you’re anxious to get cleaned up after the winter months? In addition to the annual lunch and auction, we are planning a rummage sale so we’re looking for donations for both sales. Please bring items for the rummage sale already priced.

The cost of the meal is $6.00. We will begin serving at 11:00 a.m. followed by the pie/craft/miscellaneous auction. ALL proceeds go to the camp to help with startup costs for the upcoming camping season.

Come join us for a day of fun, fellowship, and great food!!! See you there!!

IOWA JUNIOR CAMP

at Jericho Hills Camp is scheduled for June 25-29.

This year’s Early Bird Fee is $140.00 and the speaker will be Mandy Chaplin. If you would like to help, let a member of the Jr. Camp Board know. I’m sure there’s a job for you. If you’d like to sponsor a child who might not have the funds to go, the board can help you with that also.

PRAYER BREAKFAST at 7:00 a.m.

2nd Saturday of each monthSHEPHERD’S PANTRY at Fairview  9am-12pm. “Our church has had the opportunity to purchase household items, toiletries, etc. at a lower price. We would like to pass these savings on to you. We will open our pantry to people to purchase these items at these lower prices during the above hours. Come and bring your friends. Supplies will vary and we do reserve the right to limit quantities.

TRI STATE CAMP -

July 16-20, 2012 This year’s speaker is Tim Smelcer and worship will be led by Break the Fall. Cost is $210.00 with a $15.00 late fee after July 1. You may attend if you are at 13-18 years old. If you are 19 or older, contact the director about the internship program. Check with your Pastor for a registration form.

2nd ANNUAL TRACTOR, CAR, TRUCK, GARDEN TRACTOR SHOW,

AND SWAP MEET – September 15, 2012 at Fairview Community Church. 9am-1:30pm with judging beginning at 1:30pm. Awards at 3pm  Live band “Joshua” performing. Breakfast and lunch available. No entry fee but donations are appreciated. RSVP for space. Church Phone: 515-961-6069

HELP WANTED

– Arch and Julie have asked that the camp board replace them as camp managers, so if you know anyone who has just been waiting for the opportunity to serve the Lord in the camping ministry, please guide them to the camp board. The president is John Miller. We do have a couple of people who have expressed an interest and will be interviewing them soon. But if anyone else is interested in learning more about the position, let John or any of the camp board members know.

March 10    Harold Roquet from Hedrick, Iowa passed away on Saturday, March 10th in an accident on the farm.   His son is Ivan Roquet.   Funeral arrangements are not confirmed yet.

The 2012 MISSIONS CONFERENCE

will be held at Jericho Hills Camp March 30-31. Speakers are Ted Burnfield from Greenfield, Iowa; Jerry VanCleave (You may remember him from our first conference) from the Polk County jail; Jenny Prine from Ft. Wayne, Indiana CEF; and Brett Terhaar who has a veterinary ministry to Paraguay.

We will again have several short missionary updates. Connie Knouse will update us on Noel & Teresa’s ministry and Bonnie Miner on the Canters. The Bays will let us know about their Guatemala trip. Lindsay Young will tell us about her mission trip to Texas. Maressa Sharp will update us on her summer CEF ministry.

The conference will begin with supper at 6:00 pm on Friday evening.

There is no charge. However, freewill offerings will be taken to help the camp with their expenses as well as compensation for our speakers. Come enjoy a weekend of encouragement and blessings, good food, fellowship, and God’s Word.

5th SUNDAY RALLY – April 28 – 7:30-9:30pm

Did you enjoy the February rally at the Knoxville Rec Center? We had such a good turnout, we are planning the April rally there as well. If you missed the first one, come check out all the fun! Indianola CU will be providing the meal this time. The CUE board is working on some new ideas for rallies, so come join us and show your support.

Rev. Pearl Sams has stepped down as pastor of Chariton CU and Darrell Sams has been called as pastor.

 

New Iowa Council President is Stan Hughes, Pastor of Milo CU Church.

Gearold McElwee has been called as interim pastor at Fairview CU.

 

June 2011

It is reported that Indianola CU has had a flooded basement due to a sewer backup and is having some delay in getting a settlement from the city and the insurance company.

Robb Bruns is no longer pastor at Fairview CU. He & Joyce have moved to 1005 W. 1st Ave., Indianola, IA 50125   Telephone 515-962-9590.

It is reported that Indianola C U had 144 attending Easter Sunday.

BETHEL CHAPEL collected over 56 pairs of shoes for the Teen Missions Barefoot Walk project for AIDS orphans!!

The State Mission Board is also planning a project of collecting shoes culminating on a youth day at Jericho Hills Camp on October 1 with Shannon & Vicki Bobb from Teen Missions. More information will be coming soon!!

JUNIOR CAMP - Dan Hubbard is this year’s speaker. Cost is $130. On June 5 from 2-5 pm, we will have required staff training in Indianola. All staff, please contact a board member: Ed Grant, Jessica Chaplin, Julie Bay, Nita Chaplin, or Sonjia Bass. Registration forms and staff applications can be downloaded at www.hope4indianola.com if you still need one.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped and attended this year’s Hog Roast. We had tons of fun, great food, and good fellowship. This year we raised $3,390 for the camp. Thanks to the Milo Church for loaning us their games; thanks to Kevin Putney for doing the auction and also to Darrell Goering for donating the meat. And thank you to everyone who donated pies and items for the auction.

 PRAYER REQUESTS:

1. For the Kuntz and their families as they will be away for 4 years.

2. That they would be able to bond with the people and build friendships with them very quickly.

3. That they would have positive attitudes as they learn a new language and culture.

4. That during this time of adjustment and weariness that their marriage would continue to remain strong.
