October 2010   – Day Camp Report     By Samuel Young

Another year has come and gone, it’s hard to believe Camp Clearview has been holding Day Camps for FIVE years.  As always we battled the heat, rain, and wind.  Due to rain we were forced to combine the second and third weeks, but we had a total of 38 campers for the two weeks.  The kids drank lots of water to combat the heat, and we buckled down and withstood the wind.  Everything went great and the kids all had fun.

Each week we played old games that our parents and grandparents played when they were kids.  We made bracelets and bagel people for crafts.

Ron Graber and Tom Donaldson brought the chapel messages.  Cathy Graber, Nancy Young, and Patsy Regier led the crafts.  Vera Dierksen and Theleta Williams prepared the food.  Etta Fern Van Buskirk, Frieda Payne, and Doris Schulz helped serve the food.  George Payne did the dishes and cleaned up after lunch.  Jamie Graber organized some of the games for the kids.  Cathy Graber and Michelle Baldwin served as Camp Nurse as well as helped out wherever they were needed.  I had help from several teens with corralling the kids throughout the week.

If you would like to be mentioned in next year’s newsletter, please volunteer to help.  This camp would not exist without the help of many volunteers.  Gotta go; time to start planning for next year.

Oklahoma Junior Camp Report

By Bryan and Michelle Baldwin

Oklahoma C.U. Junior Camp was held the third week in July at “Camp Redlands”, a location near Stillwater and Lake McMurtry, due to the fact that our campground is not available yet for overnight camping.  The theme for Jr. Camp was “Looking for Him in 2010”.  There was a rocket launch every morning after morning devotions.

Our speaker again this year, was Noah Wickham from First Baptist Church in Claremore, OK.

Brother Noah is always a hit with the kids and has a way of teaching Chapel that helps the children hide God’s word in their hearts.  Our missionary speaker this year was Christian Union’s own Richard McCool, from Eufaula, OK.  Richard was at camp last year and the kids were so attentive and focused while Richard explained how to focus on the Lord and His plan for lives.  Our bible class teacher was Amy Bethea from Claremore, OK.  Amy brought lessons alive from the bible and taught us how we can apply them to our lives today.

This year we had 8 teen helpers.  Whether it was serving food in the kitchen, or coordinating teams of kids, our teen helpers were willing to step in wherever they were needed, and they were really appreciated.

Out of 45 kids attending, there were 4 salvation decisions during camp and several afterwards also.  The Lord moved through out the camp this year and we had an added blessing of having 4 adult helpers come from another church not affiliated with Christian Union and bringing 13 kids with them from their church.

This week would not be complete without Theleta Williams who worked hard…cooking, cleaning, and serving more food than I ever thought kids could eat.

A special thank you to All of our volunteers…Bennie, Damon, Derek, Cody, Amy, Jody, Noah, Richard, Brandon, Chrystal, Esther, Linda, Cheyenne, Autumn, Whitney, Sara, Jordan, Theleta, Vera, Doris, Margaret, Ted and the many others…who whether you drove a van, served a meal, sent cookies, stayed up late with rowdy kids, helped with crafts or kept the staff and the whole camp in your prayers…WE THANK YOU!

            Blessings to you all.
